Interests: Carving realistic human figures primarily Native Americans and old west characters.
Carving Background: Dave's interest in carving began while on a weekend vacation in Branson, Mo. Intrigued with the skill of a professional carver's ability to create wonderful pieces of art from a mere piece of wood, he immediately looked for someone to teach him the finer points of wood carving. After taking a couple of classes in Relief style carving, Dave met Wil Brewton who taught him to carve bark faces. Those classes with Wil spurred his interest in carving in the round. Seminars with Rex Branson and Jeff Phares continued the learning process. Its been more than 9 years since that weekend in Branson but the desire to improve his carving skill have not slowed one bit.
Awards:Several competition ribbons
Thoughts: Carving people is exciting and you are never in need of a subject, just look around they're everywhere. Big or small, tall or short, young or old they are all potential subjects for your next sculpture.
Although most pieces are retained by the artist, several commissions can be found in private collections across the country.
