Charlie Sapp

Affiliations: St. Charles Area Woodcarvers

Interests:Most of my work is carving in the round. I mainly carve cowboys, Native Americans and caricatures although I have completed chip, positive image and relief works.

Carving Background: I have been a wood worker for several years but only started carving a few years ago. A friend of mine back home was a carver and I always admired his work. When we moved to St. Charles I saw the night course through the adult education program and decided to give it a try.

Don Wilson was my instructor and it was a great class. However, I put my tools away for about six months after that. Then my interest was rekindled after coming to the St. Charles Area Woodcarver's Wonders of Wood show. I joined the club after that and have been carving since.

Thoughts: Contact me if you are interested in joining the club, or taking the adult education class. The adult education class is offered in both the fall and spring semesters if there is enough interest.

Some Examples of Charlie's Work

The Country doctor, and cowboy were carved from basswood and painted with acrylics.

Above is pictured a cowboy santa pelted by a snowball, and an eagle head for a cane.
