Club News
FALL SHOW: Club officers and directors established the entry fee for the fall show: $20 for members (with a $5 refund if a item is donated for the raffle); $25 for nonmembers; and $30 for venders (per table). Applications are being prepared for distribution to other clubs. Judging will be open to everyone entered in the show - members and non members.
CARVING PROJECTS: Club officers/directors are encouraging all members to bring in and work on a project at the meetings. It gives new members exposure to a range of carving styles and encourages conversation and learning. They also want to have structured projects to be offered at the meetings for new and current members that would like to participate. Please let me or a club officer know when you can lead a project. Wood burning, free form carving, chip, spoons,...have been suggested; what would you like to teach. If you are a new member and have a specific interest let us know, we will get you a mentor. Projects will start at the second meeting of the month. The following meeting (first of the next month) will be used to complete the project.
Wilbert
got several carvers started on St. Anthony at th
e
February meeting. It was a great lesson for beginning and experienced
carvers. Wilbert worked with new carvers on techniques and understanding
wood grain while more experience carvers made the chips fly and worked on
details. This project will be completed at the first meeting in March.
Thanks Wilbert.
At the second meeting in March bring a practice stick (~1 1/4 x 1 1/4 x 12 inches) or if you don't have something similar, they will be available for sale at the meeting for our next project - nose, eye, and mouth techniques.
SEMINAR: Jim Leifeld is going to host his hummingbird power carving seminar. Contact Jim ASAP if you are interested so we can get this seminar scheduled.
Editor's note: the St. Charles County Library now subscribes to Wood Carving Illustrated. Check it out if you do not have a personal subscription.
We welcome Freda Keegan, new member to the club. See Freda's carving and her picture below.
