Club News
FALL SHOW: Club officers and directors established the entry fee for the fall show: $20 for members (with a $5 refund if a item is donated for the raffle); $25 for nonmembers; and $30 for venders (per table). Applications are being prepared for distribution to other clubs. Judging will be open to everyone entered in the show - members and non members.
CARVING PROJECTS: Wilbert Brewton is continuing his instruction on carving facial features. Members have been working on laying out and carving a face. The first face was done primarily with a knife. Now Wilbert is showing members how a gouge can be used effectively to do the carving. Bill Kuhn is using the instruction to work on friendship cane pieces that the West County Club will raffle off in November.
Please let me or a club officer know when you can lead a project. Wood burning, free form carving, chip, spoons,...have been suggested; what would you like to teach. If you are a new member and have a specific interest let us know, we will get you a mentor. Projects will start at the second meeting of the month. The following meeting (first of the next month) will be used to complete the project.
SEMINAR: Jim Leifeld hosted his hummingbird power carving seminar. The carving started Friday night and went through Sunday afternoon. Jim was a great instructor and demonstrated each step to the class. Students, Amy Sook, Bill Kuhn, Al Westfall, and Charles Sapp were able to experience each step and made a lot of progress in a limited amount of time. Thanks to Jim for his time and instruction and to Judy for providing lunch for the class members.

LIBRARY: If you have checked out any books or videos please return them in a timely fashion, so that others also will have the chance to check them out.
TOOLS FOR SALE: Contact Bill Kuhn if you are interested in purchasing a Tormek sharpener and attachments. It was owned by a carver in another club that recently died and his widow has it for sale. Don Wilson also has some power tools for sale.

Who is it?
One of our club members was involved with the low temperature and pressure testing of the Hubble telescope. He/she often dealt with liquid helium and temperatures near absolute zero. Who is it? Send me an email if you know the answer. If you don't know, ask around at the next club meeting and try to find out - who it is!
Let's get to know our members. Send me a little know fact about your past/present that might stump the club.
