Smell that smoke:  Wood Burning Demonstration

Thanks to Barb Smith for providing instruction on wood burning at the June meeting.

Fall Show

Unfortunately due to financial reasons the fall show has been cancelled.  The club is considering a open house with judging later this year.

New Meeting Location

Although Rich was told that the Art Center discounts the rental ($45 per hour down to $25 per hour) for the club, we may not be able to afford to meet at the Art Center.  With the purchase of club liability insurance (required by the City of St. Peters) and the monthly charges for rent, the club will approach a zero balance in our treasury later this year.  Membership fees will not cover the current rent and insurance charges next year.    Therefore, the club is considering other locations for the monthly meetings.

This will be on the agenda for discussion at the meeting on Sept 6th.    We have located another site that has a very nominal charge and could be a possible site for the show next year.  That location along with others will be discussed and possibly voted on at the Sept 6th meeting.  Please plan on attending to voice your opinion and make your vote count.

Newsletter

The new web site is on line!  Thanks to Wyatt Sample for setting it up.  More emphasis will be placed on getting input from club members.  Wyatt will be routing a form so that you can provide information on yourself and provide him with pictures for the site.  Be sure to book mark the new URL - http://www.stcharlesareawoodcarvers.com/ .

Belleville & St. Louis Club Carving Shows

The Belleville carving show is Nov 4-5; some of our club members have discount tickets if purchased prior to the show.  The St. Louis show at Kirkwood is Nov 24-25.

New Display Location for Carvings / Burnings / Wood working

A display case for your work at the Deer Run Library will be available later this year (around November).  If you would like to display your work at the library, contact John Bouchillon.

June Showcase - Wyatt Sample

Wyatt Sample

Affiliations: He is a member of the National Association of Woodcarvers, St. Charles Area Woodcarvers and the Mid-Missouri Woodcarvers.

Interests: Wyatt enjoys caricature carving but also does realistic carving and relief carving.

Carving Background: Although he attempted some carving previously, his carving really took off when he took a class with Gerald Sears and joined a woodcarving club in 2002. Since then he has taken classes from Harley Schmitgen, John Engler and Lynn Diel. Additionally, he has learned many techniques from books, tapes, cds, and websites.

Thoughts: Getting involved in clubs and taking classes is a great way to make quick improvements in your carving.
