Club News

The club is now meeting twice a month - the first and third Wednesdays at 7pm!   The "rent fee" has also been rolled back to $1/meeting.

On October 13 the club will host an open house show and sell event at the Energy Site.  The event will be open to the public so start passing the word to your friends.  The event will include a people's choice judging, so plan on bringing your best carving for display.  There is no table fee but you will need to bring a table covering.  Show time is from 9am to 4pm.  We would like to know ahead of time if you plan to participate, but if you make a last minute decision you will still be welcome to participate.

The painting seminar on Sept 8th with Bob Biermann was well attended and enjoyed by all.  Participants learned shading and layering techniques as they painted their carvings.  See pictures below.

With all the seminars that are scheduled this fall/winter there will not be any more Saturday carving the remainder of this year.

John Bouchillon still has a few club logo decals for sale, $5.  Contact him to place your order.

Several club members have Belleville Show tickets for sale.  The cost is $2 ahead of time and $3 at the door.  The show is Nov 3rd and 4th.

Sunshine report:  Jack Combs had an accident and broke his arm.   Jim Leifeld is having some pain alleviation surgery.

Club elections are scheduled for November.  This will be your opportunity to serve the club as an officer, a director, or a committee member.

The Christmas party is scheduled for December 5th.  Keep the date open on your calendar and start making that ornament for the exchange.  The club will provide meat, cheese, bread, utensils, and drinks.  Club members are asked to bring a dish to share with others.

Show and Tell

I thought this was a buzzard, but Pat Bauman said that it is a Tennessee River eagle.  Pat would like to carve a bush instead of a stump next time.  He would like suggestions from fellow carvers on how to do it.  Can you help him?  Send your suggestions to me and I'll get them to Pat.

Welcome back Mike Simpson!  Mike completed this carving out of walnut.  The banner is open for inscriptions to the buyer.

Ray Plodzien completed another figure for his nativity grouping

Corky Breece carved this figure from a Rex Branson roughout.
