Club News:

The club is now meeting twice a month - the first and third Wednesdays at 7pm!

There was a lot of activity since the last newsletter. The club was involved in Lions Club's Oktoberfest at Frontier Park on the St. Charles Riverfront on September 26, 27 and 28. Bob Bierman hosted a three day seminar on October 17-19. We have a number of pictures of members from the club meetings and show and tell pictures from out local club members as well as our Washington member.

Also be sure to check out the resources section for wood sources and online carving instruction. There has been an additional resource added since the last newsletter.

Charles Sapp's "Carving a Santa Ornament" class has been delayed due to his job interfering with his pleasure. He promises to make it up at a later date.

Show and Tell:back to table of contents

Dick Weber (our Washington carving member) provided pictures of some of his latest carvings. At the end of the Newsletter is a pattern he provided for his bear Christmas ornaments.

The Santa and Holly Ornaments were carved from thread spools. In the middle are two versions of his Christmas Bear ornaments. These were carved for his daughter's restaurant -THE BEAR TRAP- in Riverside, Wyoming.

Below are front and side views of two bird whistles carved by Dick Weber. The Santa as well as the Sea Captain below, were carved in Silverton, Oregon

Dick carved the guy with the ball cap at the local spit and whittle late this summer.

The carvings above were done by Syl Bax. The Trout was carved in Jim Lefield's class, the hound dog was carved in Bill Kuhn's class and he carved the mountain lion using the Club's sample bust kept in the library.

John Bouchillon carved the bolo tie with a wolf head with Debbie Edward's style fur. Charlie Sapp made the egg shaped kaleidoscope. He used a lathe to shape the kaleidoscope out of walnut.

Bob Craven carved both of the above bear relief carvings. They were painted using acrylics and magic water.

Here are two views of Corky Breece's Eagle which he carved from a moose antler. The third carving is a dwarf ornament carved by Corky.

Corky Breece carved the Quilted Santa from an old roughout he had. He burned the wood between the quilt patches and painted with acrylics. The three Santas were carved by Wyatt Sample. The center one was carved in the John Bouchillon class. The others were done later, trying different styles.
