Club News:
The club meets twice a month - the first and third Wednesdays at 7pm!
The Club continues to get involved in events in the community.
John Bouchillon, Jim Liefield, Wyatt Sample, and Charlie Sapp participated in a 6 week Art Show by the St. Charles County Arts Center. The Art Gallery held the show displaying works of art including paintings, sculpture, and photography. Each club displayer provided several carvings for the show.
Upcoming events: The St. Charles County Art Council would also like to have club members show their skills on the weekend during the Celebration Americana show this summer (late June thru July). More details to follow. And keep your calendar open for pumpkin carving at the Oktoberfest in late Sept on the riverfront.
The Club also participated in the City of O'Fallon's Founders Day Celebration on May 2, 2009, teaching soap carving to children of all ages from 10am to 4pm at Fort Zumwalt Park. Marsha K. Seymour, the Manager for Tourism & Festivals for the City of O'Fallon said that the kids soap carving was a huge hit. She said that they certainly appreciated the St. Charles County Wood Carvers hosting the activity and hope we can do it again next year.
Special thanks to the club members that helped with the soap carving demonstration/training session at the O’Fallon Founder’s Day event last weekend. Martha Byron, Wilbert Brewton, Bob Berg, Al Westfall, and Rich Weitzman, and Charlie Sapp had a total of 93 kids (of all ages) complete soap carvings.
It was a great day and there was a constant stream of carvers from the opening at 10am until we used the last bar of soap at 4pm and called it a day. Thanks also to Dale Sapp for making two extra runs to the store to purchase more soap during the day.
You can spot Wyatt Sample in a couple of the pictures, but he was under the weather and just came to take pictures. He found his camera was missing the memory card so he was unable to take pictures but his daughter was able to soap carve. Luckily Rich Weitzman did bring a camera and provided the following pictures for the newsletter.
