Carving Background: I have dabbled in art all my life. I guess I get my artistic ability from my dad. He was a professional photographer but loved to work in wood. He was always building something. If I didn't have a pencil for drawing in my hand I had a hammer or saw building something. He taught me a lot of things, but never enough. I did a lot of artsy-craftsy thing later in life.
Years ago I went back to school and became a graphic artist. Then I went to work as a graphic artist with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Mo. When the art field starting going computerized I got out of the field, but continued to do projects at home.
I started woodcarving years ago when I found a flier about woodcarving classes offered at St. Charles West High School Adult Evening Class. I almost didn't sign up because I assumed I would be the only woman there, but I was greatly surprised how many women that were interested in woodcarving. It made me feel a bit more comfortable. I sure am glad I did. Been carving every since. I have carved all types of woodcarvings.
I have taken classes from Stu Martin, Shiela Hunter and others. I have also taken woodburning classes from Cheryl Dow. Since Cheryl's class I am woodburning on a more regularly basis now. I am thoroughly enjoying this area of art.
